Inlays and Onlays Treatment in Santa Clarita, Valencia

Our teeth are very tough. But regardless of how tough the teeth are and regardless of how well you brush and floss your teeth, they are still susceptible to damage. That’s why here at Shawn Javid, DDS, we offer a variety of solutions to all kinds of dental problems, and inlays and onlays are among them.

Inlays and Onlays

Inlays and onlays are also known as indirect fillings. When damage to a tooth is too great to repair with a traditional filling, but a full crown is not necessary, inlays and onlays may be the right option.

Inlays are used when the damage is only between the cusps or points of a tooth. An onlay is necessary when the damage extends over at least one of the cusps.

Why Do You Need Inlays and Onlays?

If you have moderately damaged teeth, an inlay or onlay may be able to get your tooth back into its former shape. They help to keep the tooth strong and protect it from further damage.

With the use of inlays and onlays, your teeth will look natural, you will be able to chew your food properly, and your tooth will be restored to its proper shape.

What to Expect

The first thing we will do when you visit our office is check the state of your teeth. We look for signs of damage, and we determine its severity. For some types of damage, we can recommend an inlay or an onlay instead of a full crown or a filling.

Then we begin the process by removing all the decayed parts of your tooth. After this step is completed, we will take images of your tooth which will be used to create the inlay or onlay. Then we secure the restoration on the tooth with the use of dental cement.

If you would like to learn more about restoration options including inlays and onlays, give us a call today to set up an appointment.
