Sedation Dentistry at Santa Clarita, Valencia

Nervousness and anxiety about visiting the dentist is something that affects many people. Having these feelings may cause a person to not visit the dentist for some time, and in turn, it may damage their oral health. Dental visits are essential for maintaining proper oral health. So if you are feeling anxious or nervous about your dentist visit, Shawn Javid, DDS has the perfect solution for you: sedation dentistry.

We offer various types of sedation here at Shawn Javid, DDS. These include general and local anesthesia, oral sedation, IV sedation and laughing gas. Our team is happy to discuss these forms of sedation dentistry with you and decide what option works best for you.

Local and General Anesthesia: Local anesthesia works to prevent the nerves from sending pain sensations to the brain by numbing a part of the body. This type of anesthesia is used during minor dental treatment. General anesthesia is used for more extensive dental treatment. Under general anesthesia, the brain doesn’t respond to pain signals at all since the patient is asleep. Both of these types of anesthesia are successful in decreasing pain during dental treatment.

Oral Sedation: Oral sedation is typically administered in pill form and is sometimes known as the “twilight pill.” The pill is given about an hour before the procedure. The sedation can range from mild to moderate and will make you drowsy, but you will not lose consciousness. In some cases when a heavier dose is given, the patient may be able to fall asleep but can be awoken with a simple shake.

IV Sedation: IV sedation, or intravenous sedation, is administered through the vein in order for the sedation to work quickly. The dosage is adjustable and can be tailored to each patient’s needs. IV sedation is usually recommended during extensive dental procedures such as tooth extractions, implant replacements, and other invasive surgeries.

Laughing Gas: Laughing gas is used as a local sedation method for dental treatments. This type of sedation is known to relax patients and keep them calm while the treatment is underway. With laughing gas, the patient is conscious. This type is useful because the effects of the gas work quickly and are easily reversed.

Shawn Javid, DDS is dedicated to making sure your dental experience is comfortable and stress-free. For more information about our sedation dentistry options and what might work best for you.
